Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Book Sort and Stack
Materials: Bible, several books of different types and sizes
Place the Bible and other books on the floor on one side of the room. Guide the kids to stand on the other side of the room. Have kids, one at a time, run and grab a book and bring it back. Once every child has a book guide them to lay them in a line from smallest to largest. Then have them stack the books with the largest one on the bottom and the smallest one on the top. Say: “We have all kinds of books, but there is no other book like the Bible. The Bible is the only book that God helped people to know what to write.”

Game – Deliver the Letter
Materials: one envelope, review questions
Guide the kids to stand against the wall in different parts of the room or if space permits form a large circle. Give one child the envelope. When you say go, he should run to another child and deliver the letter. He then takes that child’s place. The child with the letter must answer a review question. If she is correct, she delivers the letter to another child. Play until every child has the opportunity to answer a review question. Open the Bible and read 2 Peter 1:21. Lead the kids to repeat the verse with you. Explain that the Holy Spirit helped Peter write special letters that taught people about God. Those letters are now a part of the Bible.
Craft – Decorate Envelopes
Materials: one white envelope per child, markers or colored pencils
Give each child a white envelope. Explain they can decorate their envelope any way they want using the pencils or markers. As the kids work, say: “In the time when Peter lived, people communicated with each other by writing letters. Peter and a few others like Paul wrote special letters. The Holy Spirit told them what to write. These special letters are now printed in the Bible.”
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Find the Book
Materials: one Bible for each child
Line the kids up standing shoulder to shoulder. Have the kids hold the closed Bible in their hands. Call out the name of a book of the Bible and say “Go.” The kids should open their Bible to the book you called out. When each child finds that book they should hold their open Bible and take one step forward. Be sure to include 1 and 2 Peter in the books you call out. After the kids find 2 Peter take a minute to read the weekly verse, 2 Peter 1:21. Tell the kids that the Holy Spirit guided every writer of the Bible.

Game – Teacher Says
Materials: none
Play a game of Simon Says, but say, “Teacher says.” If anyone does a move when you don’t say, “Teacher Says,” direct her to sit down for a turn. After several rounds explain to the kids that whatever the teacher said, the kids were to do. Say: “Peter listened to what the Holy Spirit said and wrote down that the Holy Spirit told him. Peter’s letters are in our Bible today.”
Craft – Listen and Write
Materials: paper, pencils, markers
Give each child a paper and access to pencils and markers. Read the Weekly Verse slowly, a few words at a time. Guide the kids to write down the words as you speak. Tell them to use the markers to decorate their Bible verse. Say: “You listened to me and wrote what I spoke. Peter listened to the Holy Spirit and wrote the words in the Bible.” Encourage the kids to keep this paper to remind them that the Holy Spirit led people to write the Bible.
