Grades 1-3
Game – Spell of Wind
Materials: plastic cups, table tennis balls, thin-line permanent marker, straws (one per kid)
Cut 3 cups in half. Write one of these letters on each cup half: P, e, t, e, r. (You’ll have one blank half.) Lay the cups, cut side down, on the floor. Write the letters on table tennis balls, one word per ball. (Make two or more sets if you choose.) Lead kids to take turns choosing a ball and blowing the ball across the floor and into the cup with the matching letter. Remove the balls and play again. Challenge kids to blow the balls into the cups in order or blow them faster, decreasing the speed to complete the name. Tell the kids that something unusual happened in the Bible story and Peter preached about it.
Live It Out
Game – Loop the Hoop
Materials: plastic hoops, plastic cones, tape
Use tape to make a “tossing line” near one end of the game area. Scatter cones throughout the game area, beginning a few feet from the tape line. Lead kids to take turns standing at the tape line and rolling a hoop into the game area, trying to get the hoop to land around a cone. If the hoop lands around a cone, ask a review question. Play the game as one group or create teams. Award points for looping the hoop around a cone and additional points for correct answers to questions.
Craft – All the Earth Reminder
Materials: coffee filters, blue and green markers, spray bottles with water, plastic trays, paper towels
Distribute coffee filters to the kids. Lead kids to color the filters with blue markers and then add green over the blue. As they work, talk about the Bible story. Tell kids that people all over the earth need to hear that Jesus is the Savior. As kids finish coloring the filters, lead each kid to take a turn holding the filter over a tray and spraying it with water. Colors will run together to create a replica of the earth. Place the wet filters on paper towels to dry. Say the Life Point together.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Freeze
Materials: Music
Play music and lead kids to move or march around the game area. Stop the music and freeze in a particular position. Tell kids to freeze in a way that matches you. Play music and move again. Choose different positions as you freeze: saluting, playing a guitar, hitting a baseball, signaling touchdown, etc. Tell kids that they will hear a story today about men who obeyed Jesus and told about Him.
Live It Out
Game – Sliding Review
Materials: dry erase board with an eraser tray, marker, eraser
Write point values (10, 20, etc.) along the bottom of the board in regular intervals. Group the kids into two (or more) teams. Ask a team a review question. If the answer is correct, a team member can slide the eraser along the tray. (Start at the end with the lower numbers.) Award points equal to whichever number is closest to the eraser. If the eraser goes off the end of the tray, no points are awarded. Alternate play between teams. Tell the kids that all people need to hear about Jesus the Savior.
Craft – Graphic Story
Materials: paper, pencils or thin-line markers
Talk about the Bible story and the Life Point. Encourage kids to talk about situations or times that people could tell about Jesus. Guide kids to fold paper in half and in half again, to create four sections. They can draw squares around the four sections to create four panels. Then they can draw graphic stories or “comic strip” stories of one of the situations discussed. (Or suggest they draw a graphic story of the Bible story.) Pray and ask God to help all people hear about Jesus the Savior.
