Grades 1–6: Tell About Jesus — Session 3: Paul Preached in Athens (June 15)

Grades 1-3

Introductory Activity – Globe Talking

Materials: globe

Before the session, look at the missions information for this quarter. Tell the kids where the missionaries they are learning about live and tell about Jesus. Look at a globe with the kids and help them find the countries. Talk about Paul’s travels and his telling people about Jesus. Explain that missionaries travel all over the world to tell people about Jesus because Christians are responsible for telling others about Jesus.

Live It Out

Game – Jesus Loves You Tag

Materials: None

Play a game of tag but when It tags someone, he should also say, “Jesus loves you.” Talk about Paul teaching the people in Athens about Jesus. Explain that Christians should tell others about the love and forgiveness of Jesus. 

Craft – Color my World

Materials: coloring page of a world map, markers 

Make a copy of the page for each child. As the kids color their world map talk about missionaries who travel all over the world to tell people about Jesus. Talk about Paul who fulfilled his Christian responsibility to tell others about Jesus. 

Grades 4-6

Introductory Activity – Guess the country

Materials: index cards, pen, tape

Print the name of different countries on several index cards. Tape card to each child’s back. Do not let them see what is written on the card. Tell the kids to move around the room asking questions and getting clues to guess what country is on their back. Talk about Christian missionaries who go to different countries to teach about Jesus.

Live It Out

Game – I’m Taking a Can Opener to Canada 

Materials: none

Have the kids sit in a circle. The first child should think of country and something to take with them on a trip then say something like, “I’m taking a banana to Brazil.” The next child should repeat what the first child said and add their own sentence. Continue with new child reciting the full list and adding their own to it. Review the Bible story and say the Life Point.   

Craft – Go Posters

Materials: paper, markersPrint the Weekly Verse, Mark 16:15, on a paper for kids to copy. Read aloud the Bible verse Mark 16:15 from the Bible. Guide the kids to make a Bible verse poster by writing the verse on their paper and decorating it. Talk about the Bible story as the kids work. Say that Christians have a responsibility to tell others about Jesus.
