Say the Life Point as you transition to your Bible study time.
Live It Out
Game – Life Point Step-Out
Materials: paper, marker, tape
Write the words of the Life Point on paper, one word per page. Mix the words (plus one piece of blank paper) and tape them to the floor in a 3-by-3 grid. Guide kids to stand in a line. Tell the first kid to stand on the blank page and step on the first word of the Life Point. The second kid can step on the first and second word. Continue, leading kids to step on the words in order that the previous kid stepped on and adding the next word. If a kid makes a mistake, he can start over. Say the Life Point together. Talk about the Bible story and how Hannah knew that God heard her prayer.
Craft – Decorated Pencil
Materials: pencils, decorative paper tape or other colored tape, scissors, paper
Provide each kid with a pencil. Guide her to decorate her pencil with the colored tape. Talk about the Bible story while kids work. Encourage kids to recall why Hannah prayed and how she knew that God heard her prayer. When a child finishes decorating her pencil, lead her to write the Life Point with it. Tell her to take the pencil home and write down things she can pray for this week.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Do What I Say, Not What I Do
Materials: none
Guide children to stand and face you. Tell kids to do whatever motion you say. Say a movement for kids to do but move in a different way. For example, say: “Clap your hands” while you march in place. If children march instead of clap, tell them to stand to one side. (They can move back to the middle after the next movement.) Continue to say one thing but do another. Tell kids that today they will learn more about trusting God and what He says.
Live It Out
Game – Answer Relay
Materials: index cards with review questions and answers
Write review questions on index cards, one per card. Write the answers to the questions on other cards, one per card. Place a table at one end of the game area. Group the questions on left side of the table and the answers on the right side of the table. (Cards should be mixed in each category.)
Tell kids to stand in a line. The first kid runs down to the table and chooses a question card. The kid runs back and reads the question. The next kid in line runs down and finds the matching answer card. She runs back and reads the answer. The next kid runs down to choose another question card, and so on. Continue until all the questions and answers are matched. Talk about the Bible story. Say the Life Point together. (Mix the cards and play the game again as time allows.)
Craft – Doorknob Reminder
Materials: heavyweight paper, markers, stickers, ribbon, glue, collage materials, scissors
Lead kids to cut circles or other shapes from heavyweight paper. Help a preteen cut a length of ribbon, fold it, and glue the ends to the back of him shape to create a hanger. Tell him to write Pray and trust God in the middle of the shape. He can use the art materials to decorate around the statement. Talk about the Bible story and the Life Point. Suggest kids write the Life Point on the backs of their shapes. Tell kids to hang the reminder on the doorknobs to their rooms. They will be reminded to pray each day when they see the doorknob reminder.
