Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Animal Tag
Materials: tape (or plastic hoops)
Create several circles on the floor with tape (or use hoops). Guide all kids to stand in a circle. (More than one kid can be in a circle.) Choose a kid to be It. It says: “Rabbit, hop to a new home.” All kids hop to different circles. It tries to tag rabbits; he hops, too. Any animals tagged move to the wall. Choose a new It from the tagged animals. The kid formerly It moves to a circle. It can call out any kind of animal and the kids move like that animal to a new circle. After a couple of rounds, the tagged kids move back into circles. Tell kids that they will hear a story with lots of animals in it.
Live It Out
Game – Noah, May I?
Materials: no materials needed
Guide kids to stand in a line (shoulder to shoulder) facing you. Choose a kid (or several kids) to hop 3 times like a frog. The chosen kids should ask: “Noah, may I?” and you respond: “Yes you may.” Periodically, ask a review question before kids move forward. When someone reaches you, restart the game. Talk about the Life Point with kids. Say a prayer, thanking God for being in control of all nature.
Craft – Rainbow Reminder
Materials: paper plates, crepe paper or ribbon in different colors, tape, markers, scissors, self-adhesive magnets
Cut paper plates in half; each kid will need a half. Guide a kid to write the Life Point on the paper plate and color her plate to look like a rainbow. She can cut lengths of crepe paper or ribbon and tape along the end of her plate. Talk about the Bible story. Say the Life Point as kids wave their reminders. Help kids place magnets on the backs of their reminders so they can stick them on refrigerators or other locations at home.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Sink or Float
Materials: large clear container, various items
Fill the large clear container with water and place it before the kids. Hold up an item and allow the kids to vote on whether it will sink or float when you drop it into the water. Drop the item in the water to see if it will sink or float. Repeat this process with multiple items. Afterward, explain how God commanded Noah to build an ark that would float during a great flood so he and his family would be safe.
Live It Out
Game – Balloon Release
Materials: balloons (one per kid), paper, marker
On paper, print these (one per page): something God did; something Noah did; Weekly Verse; Life Point. Make 2 of each page. Spread these phrases in the play area. Mark a release line (where kids should stand) with tape.
Group kids into teams. One player from each team steps to the release line, inflates his balloon, and releases the balloon to fly around the room (aiming to land on one of the papers). If his balloon does not land on a paper, he retrieves his balloon and moves to the end of his team’s line. If it does land on a paper, the player says something God did in the story, something Noah did in the story, the Weekly Verse, or the Life Point (depending on the paper on which his balloon lands). The team gets 1 point and he retrieves his balloon and moves to the end of his team’s line. Continue with each team’s players until all team members have had at least 1 turn.
Craft – Magnetic Puzzles
Materials: heavyweight paper (cut into 6-inch squares), gel pens, markers, magnetic tape, scissors, ziplock bags
Give each kid a square of paper. She can write the Life Point in large colorful letters. Lead her to cut the square into 5-6 pieces and attach magnetic tape to the back of each piece. She can work her puzzle or trade and work a friend’s puzzle. Tell kids to place their puzzles in bags (to take home). Challenge them to place the puzzles on their refrigerators to remember God’s work and purpose.
