Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Guess the Stars
Materials: star stickers, poster board
Before class, place as many star stickers as possible on a poster board. In class, gather the kids around you and tell them they must guess how many stars are on the posterboard and that you will only allow them to look at the board for 30 seconds. After they examine the board, allow each child to guess and write their answers on the board. The child who guesses the closest is the winner! Remind the kids that God created everything from nothing, including all the stars they see every night.
Live It Out
Game – Creation Hopscotch
Materials: painters tape, small stone
Create a seven-squared hopscotch board on the floor using tape. (If you can’t tape on the floor, use a long piece of paper and draw the board on the paper. Lay the paper on the floor.) Number each square from one to seven. Line up the kids to go through the board. Give the first child a stone and instruct them to toss it on the board. Direct them to hop through the board on one foot, skipping the square the rock landed on. Tell the children to say what God created each day as they jump through the board. Afterward, say the Weekly Verse together.
Craft – Creation Spin Wheel
Materials: paper plate, construction paper, brass fastener, markers or crayons, scissors
Give each child a paper plate, construction paper, and a brass fastener. Instruct them to divide their plate into six sections like a pie. Tell them to write the numbers one through six, one in each section. Instruct them to write on the back of the plate what God created each day. Direct them to decorate their plate. Next, instruct them to draw and cut out an arrow from their construction paper. Tell them to attach the arrow to the middle of the plate with the brass fastener. Encourage the kids to have their parents spin the arrow and see if they can say what God created each day!
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity – Creation Charades
Materials: index cards, pen
Before class, write down what God created each day on index cards, one per card. Be sure to include which day it was created. In class, ask six volunteers to pick a card and act out that day of creation without using any words. The rest of the class will attempt to guess what they are acting out. Afterward, write the Life Point on the board and say it together.
Live It Out
Game – Rock It Out
Materials: small stones
Before class, hide the stones around your classroom. In class, form three teams with the kids. Tell the teams they will have one minute to find as many stones as possible. The team that finds the most stones is the winner! Remind the kids that God made everything in creation, including the stones they walk on, and that they love to skip on lakes. Say the Weekly Verse together.
Craft – Creation Collage
Materials: paper, markersGive each child a piece of paper and markers. Instruct them to write the Life Point at the top of the page. Direct them to create six equal-sized boxes on their page. Tell them to draw and color things God made on each day of Creation. Afterward, allow several volunteers to show their drawings to the rest of the class. Say the Weekly Verse together.
