Grades 1-3
Introductory Activity – Journal God’s Goodness
Materials: paper and writing utensils
As kids arrive, make sure they have paper and writing utensils. Encourage them to draw or write down one time when they felt God’s goodness. Maybe it was a good thing that happened to their family or maybe it was just a happy feeling they had when spending time with friends. Have volunteers share when everyone is done. Tell kids that in today’s Bible story, they will learn about a time when God’s goodness was there even when things seemed bad.

Game – Tic-Tac-Toe Review
Materials: beanbags in two colors, masking tape
Create a giant tic-tac-toe board on the ground with masking tape and create two teams of kids. Ask the review questions to one team at a time. If the team gets the question right, they can choose a player to toss a beanbag onto the board. The first team to achieve 3 across wins! Remind kids that God showed Joseph and Pharaoh that He was in control of all things when He helped Joseph interpret Pharaoh’s dream.
Craft – Dream Clouds
Materials: white paper, markers, various colored construction paper, scissors, glue stick
Cut various colors of construction paper into ½-by-2-inch strips and place them with the other materials. Show kids how to draw a cloud on white paper and cut it out. Kids can then glue strips of construction paper to the bottom of the clouds as if the strips are coming out of the bottom. Kids can write some of their dreams on the paper coming from the clouds. Remind kids that though some dreams are just our imaginations working hard, the dreams that Joseph interpreted were real! God used Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams to bring about His good purposes.
Grades 4-6
Introductory Activity—Beach Ball Spell
Materials: large blanket, beach ball
Once at least four kids arrive, give each one a corner of the blanket. Place the beach ball on top and encourage them to bounce the beach ball on the blanket while spelling the word control. If the ball falls off, they should start over. As more kids arrive, allow them to join in by holding part of the blanket. If practicing social distancing, bring multiple clean blankets so there are only four kids to each blanket. Tell kids that today they learn about how God is in control of all things.

Game – Scrap Paper Toss
Materials: scrap paper, two bins
Set up two trash empty trash bins side-by-side. Give each child two pieces of scrap paper and allow them to crumple it up, sending every other kid to the opposite bin. Kids can stand a distance away from the trash bin before attempting to throw the paper in. Everyone can have one chance. After the first chance, start asking review questions. If a child gets the answer correct, he can toss his paper. Continue asking questions as long as time allows. Remind kids that God showed through Joseph’s interpretation of Pharaoh’s dream that God is in control of all things.
