Getting Stated
Read after GUIDE:
Have you seen the commercials for a product that is “Built to Last?” The commercial often goes on to say that, “With proper care, you will never have to buy one again!” Maybe a product comes with a “life-time warranty,” ensuring that you will never have to spend money on that object. For example, some items that are marketed to “last forever” are a cast-iron pan, baking sheets, mortar and pestle, drip coffee maker, thermometer, and more. Unfortunately, everything will eventually come to an end. Nothing will last forever, no matter how much is promised—or we’d like to think otherwise.
However, one thing that will last forever is the love of our Lord, Jesus Christ. He chose to go to the cross for us, and because of that devotion, God will always be with us. No matter what happens in our lives, God is eternal and He knows the past, present and future. And because of that, we can put our faith and hope in Him. But like a tool or a pair of pants, we have to be willing to put in the work in our relationship with Him. Because God is eternal, those who have a relationship with Him will live with Him forever.
In what way are you struggling with the concept of “eternal?” Is there a place in your life that you need to give over to the God who was, is and is to come? What excites you about the idea of living forever in Heaven with Jesus? [Source: 72 ‘Buy It for Life’ Products: Cast-Iron, Tools, Speakers, Chairs, and More | WIRED]

Telling family stories is an important endeavor, commemorating events we cherish—or want to forget! But sometimes it can be hard to share stories with family; maybe they are too emotional or there isn’t enough information to make it relevant or interesting. However, there are tools we can use to tell family stories to keep them alive for generations to come.
For instance, family stories shape our identity growing up. It helps provide roots, a sense of self and instills values. Second, stories strengthen family bonds. When stories are shared of our ancestors, there is a bond that connects family members in a way they can’t be anywhere else. Third, we can gather strength, courage, or resilience learning how our family coped and overcame adversity in the past. Fourth, the power of memories—humans love experiences, often more than “things.” Experiences can be passed down from generation to generation in story form, which gives power to memories in the life of each family member.
As you look at sharing your faith story, how can you put these principles into practice? How has God been there for you, given you strength or changed your worldview to match His through an experience? How can you pass that onto the next generation for their edification in their relationship with God, and for God’s glory? [Source: Why Telling Our Family Stories Is So Beneficial—LifeBook]
