New Zealand actor Sam Neill passed away suddenly on July 13. Neill was credited with making his home country’s film industry what it is today before becoming an international star with his 1979 film “My Brilliant Career.” Though his prolific career included both art films and blockbusters, Neill was best known for his role as paleontologist Allen Grant in the “Jurassic Park” franchise. His former costars remember him as an “elegant and versatile actor.”
In 2023, Neill was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and said that the year had been full of “dark moments” that made him grateful for his friends. Though no cause of death has been released as of writing this, the actor was reported to be cancer free when he died. Neill is survived by his four children and eight grandchildren.
Even after his passing, Neill is still known for his lengthy acting career, quiet dignity, and kindness. His legacy will live on through his movies and family. Everyone wants to be remembered after they die, and how they live today determines what they are remembered for. As believers, we should leave behind a legacy that points to God instead of our own accomplishments.

What does a faithful manager of God look like?
The 2026 World Cup was the first time America had hosted a world cup since 1994. To capitalize on how many people would be visiting the country, churches, local associations, state conventions, IMB, and NAMB worked hard to spread the gospel through both in-person and digital means. Throughout the course of the World Cup, Southern Baptists rolled out digital ads, hosted watch parties at churches, and handed out stickers, patches, and QR-coded bracelets. IMB and NAMB partnered together to equip volunteers to share the gospel during games and other events. As a result of their efforts, nearly 6 million people engaged with ads designed to spark spiritual confirmations and over 13 thousand gospel presentations were fully watched.
Southern Baptists were ready to move when they knew that millions of people were coming. Some of these people may have never heard the gospel before. But thanks to all the volunteers, there were at least eight confirmed salvations and thousands of gospel seeds planted. By choosing to prepare these materials and train volunteers to talk and pray with others, the SBC responded by being faithful managers of their resources when God brought the world to America. Even if you feel like you don’t have much to offer to God, be faithful in managing what you do have and continuing to share the gospel with those around you.
