Read after discussing Getting Started —The Point:
Twenty-nine out of the top thirty aging countries are found in Europe, with Italy, Spain, and the UK projected to be within the top five by 2050. IMB missionary and physician assistant Josh Cobb has made this age group a large part of his mission field. He notes that many older adults live alone, with their “hard-won independence” becoming isolatory. Cobb sees caring for Europe’s elderly as a way for both health and spiritual outreach, and has begun working with the IMB to add elder care to existing missions training, stating that even one kind interaction can open the door to deeper spiritual conversations.
Unintentionally, many elderly tend to fall through the cracks when it comes to physical and spiritual care. They may focus so much on maintaining their independence that they become afraid to ask for help. They may be home-bound, or their identity begins to slip as their families need them less and less. But to love God means to love all His people, regardless of age. Believers should intentionally look for those society tends to miss because they still have value and need salvation.

A new, experimental pill has been able to help people with advanced pancreatic cancer live longer. This raised hopes of much needed improved care for one of the deadliest cancers. Researchers have made clear that while it’s not a cure, it’s a massive step in the right direction. The drug, which works by blocking a mutated protein that fuels tumor growth in over 90 percent of cases, is a daily pill that has nearly doubled survival time with fewer severe side effects. In the study, the group who used the new medicine over traditional chemotherapy ended up using the medicine for twice as long as the chemotherapy group.
Battling one of the most lethal forms of cancer can seem hopeless, but some researchers are still continuing to work on finding ways to extend and improve quality of life for patients until there’s a cure. Even if you’re not trying to find a cure for cancer, it can be difficult to help someone else when their situation seems hopeless. But where there’s God, there’s always hope. And sometimes He’s waiting for you to be His hands and feet in the situation.
