Getting Stated

Read after discussing Getting Started—Question 1:

What’s one thing you learned from a mistake that turned out to be a blessing?

Blue Origin, a space company owned by Amazon executive Jeff Bezos, had a rocket explode during a test fire. The New Glenn rocket was originally set to launch in mid-June, but is now indefinitely postponed since the entire rocket blew up and ruined part of the launchpad. This setback comes one month after the entire New Glenn fleet was grounded due to an upper-stage engine problem that put a satellite into the wrong orbit. These rockets are what Blue Origin is planning to use to launch rocket landers to the moon as part of NASA’s Artemis program, as well as launching Amazon Leo satellites for satellite internet.

While the launchpad and rocket destruction have massively set Blue Origin back in their space program, this gives the company the chance to fix the critical mistakes that could’ve damaged other, more expensive equipment or prevented future launches at all. Regardless of what caused the explosion, this mistake gives engineers time to fix the mistakes to ensure the success of future launches. While our mistakes may not cause the loss of an incredibly expensive rocket and launchpad, they can still be costly. However, God can redeem our mistakes and guide us on another path with blessings we couldn’t have foreseen.

Study the Bible (Option for Adult Leader Guide)

Read after discussing Study the Bible—Question 4:

Sixty-three new International Mission Board (IMB) missionaries were celebrated at the SBC annual meeting’s Sending Celebration on June 9. Missionaries took the stage in Orlando and shared their callings and gratitude for the support of their upcoming mission work. During the ceremony, IMB President Paul Chitwood said that the “missionary pipeline is exploding,” with a 500% increase in new missionaries over the last few years. Chitwood thanked the sending churches for discipling and praying for their missionaries, as well as the whole SBC for supporting missions through giving. These new missionaries join over 3,500 missionaries already serving in 155 countries.

As more people currently live on Earth than at any point in history, there’s a record number of lost people in need of the gospel. These commissioned missionaries have chosen to continue to walk in the light by following God’s calling in their lives to reach out to people all over the world. While not everyone is called to international missions, everyone is called to share the gospel with those around them. Believers can choose to walk in the light by prioritizing their relationship with God and asking Him to help them see people as He does. They can pray for opportunities to meet needs in their community and courage to share the gospel. Choosing to walk in the light is an active, daily choice to put God above your own desires and see people as He does – worthy of being saved.
